Paediatric Medical Advisor to the Sussex & Kent ME/CFS Society, Dr Esther Crawley has been promoted to Professor and appointed to the Chair of Professor of Child Health at the University of Bristol.
On hearing the news Mary-Jane Willows, AYME’s Chief Executive, says: “There can be no-one more deserving of this position. Esther works tirelessly and diligently on behalf of children and young people with ME leading the field in the UK on paediatric research. Through her work in clinic she brings hope to many families from across the UK who may have had to wait for years to be seen. Her work provides evidence to challenge the stigma and disbelief faced by these children and young people on a daily basis. Without her expertise we would be years behind in treating and exploring more effective ways to manage the condition.”
As Consultant Paediatrician, with a special interest in CFS/ME, Esther is the clinical lead for Bath’s specialist CFS/M.E. service for children based at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases. The hospital currently provides assessment and treatment for over 200 children and young people each year.
