Sussex Argus – May 27th: A specialist service for people with ME has marked its 10th anniversary. The Haywards Heath baced facility is the busiest of its kind in the UK and continues to receive 40 referrals a month. The Sussex & Kent ME Society is a supporter of the NHS-run service, which provides assessments and runs illness management courses around the county. It was set up with the charity’s help after a survey showed both patients and GPs wanted one. John Creswell, from ME Society, said: “Even though they do not have all the answers to this complicated chronic illness, the NHS service is helping many towards improved health.” ME, or chronic fatigue syndrome, can sometimes follow a viral infection or trauma and is classified as a neurological disorder by the Department of Health. Symptoms include profound physical and mental exhaustion and problems with concentration.
